Los Angeles City Council President Nury Martinez hosted a back to school backpack giveaway in Van Nuys on Thursday, Aug. 111, partnering with the New Economics for Women group.
More than 250 students showed up to take take backpacks and school supplies for local students. Their families also took advantage of a community resaource fair.
Thousands of kids are heading back to school in the Los Angeles area this month.
An estimated 520,000 students are expected to return to Los Angeles Unified School District sites on Monday as the nation’s second-largest school district reconvenes for the fall semester.
