The Delhi High Court on Thursday issued a notice to the Centre and others on a plea challenging the constitutional validity of various sections of the Chartered Accountants Amendment Act and the Company Secretaries Amendment Act. Meanwhile, a plea challenging sections 21(9), 21A(6) and (7) and 21B (6) and (7) of the Chartered Accountants Act, 1949 as amended by The Chartered Accountants (CA) and Company Secretaries (Amendment) Act, 2022, was filled earlier. A petition seeking to issue directions declaring the aforesaid provisions are ultra vires to the Constitution as being contrary to the principles enunciated in articles 14, 19(1)(g) and 21 and to quash said provisions to the extent they run contrary to the principles enunciated in the Constitution.

Railways Police bust inter-state job racket, 5 held

Five people were held for impersonating trainee ticket examiners, as Railways Police busted a job racket on Wednesday. SC orders MHA to obtain verification reports from eight states

Mahindra & Mahindra posts 87% jump in domestic passenger vehicles sales

Mahindra & Mahindra on Thursday reported an 87 per cent increase in domestic passenger vehicles sales at 29,852 units in August. The company had sold 15,973 units in the same month last year, M&M said in a regulatory filing.
Sales of cars and vans were at 336 units in the month under review, up from 187 units in the year-ago month. In the commercial vehicles segment, the company said it sold 21,492 vehicles in August 2022, as against 8,814 units in the same month last year.

The Income Tax Department has raided 28 premises spread in West Bengal and Jharkhand belonging to a prominent Kolkata-based business group engaged in the manufacturing of power transmission and distribution structures, steel structures, steel ERW pipes, and polymer products among others, Union Finance Ministry said on Thursday. The search and seizure operation by the Income Tax Department was carried out on 24th August 2022. During the course of the search operation, various methods of tax evasion adopted by the group were unearthed.

WB coal mining scam: Delhi HC extends custody parole of accused

The Delhi High Court on Thursday extended by five days the custody parole of an accused, arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money laundering investigation linked to an alleged coal mining scam in West Bengal. Justice Jasmeet Singh granted relief to Gurupada Maji to enable him to attend certain rituals following the death of his mother last month. The court, while dealing with the plea of the accused for extension of his release, said that instead of September 3, his custody parole will end on September 8.

Flood situation in Pakistan highly likely to boost disease spread

The catastrophic flood situation in Pakistan will highly likely increase the spread of disease, says the World Health Organization (WHO), as the country continues its relentless battle against the deadly deluges. In its latest situation report on flooding in Pakistan, the WHO pointed out that the heavy monsoon rain which started in mid-June are continuing in many parts of the country and have affected 116 districts (75 per cent) out of the total 160, Geo News reported.
The most affected province is Sindh, followed by Balochistan. As of August 25, more than 33 million people have been affected and over 6.4 million people are in dire need of humanitarian aid, including 421,000 refugees, the WHO report highlighted.

August manufacturing growth continues to trend higher on strong demand

India’s manufacturing sector activity in August witnessed the second-strongest improvement in operating conditions in nine months, boosted by strengthening demand conditions and softening inflation concerns, a monthly survey said on Thursday. Production volumes were also supported by a pick-up in exports and upbeat projections for the year-ahead outlook. Firms were at their most optimistic for six years. The seasonally adjusted S&P Global India Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) was little changed from July’s reading of 56.4, posting 56.2 in August.
