New bike path taking shape

The Houghton Road bike path extension is nearing completion in Rutland.

The City of Kelowna says it is working to encourage active transportation in the community and the Houghton “active transportation corridor” will help in extending the current corridor down Lester Road to Leathead Road and across Highway 97 to Enterprise Way.

“Construction is moving smoothly and on schedule. We are excited to complete this important corridor and appreciate the patience we have received from everyone in the city,” said senior project manager Derek Corning.

The next steps in connecting Rutland to the Okanagan Rail Trail and beyond are:

  • Leathead Road to Enterprise Way – August 12 until end of September
  • The Highway 97 area – End of August until the end of September

Traffic detours are not planned as work will maintain both lanes through the duration of the project, with some short periods of single lane alternating traffic.

As a multi-modal pathway, pedestrian and bicyclists will share the same space on the new path.
